Question: My Manta only seems to glide to
one side. What am I doing wrong?
Answer: We have found that there are 2 situations where Mantas
will not glide left to right. The first is when the fisherman uses monofilament
lines. Mono has too much stretch to feel the lure properly. The second and more
prevalent reason why a Manta will not glide left to right is because the
fisherman is making sweeps with the rod rather than facing the lure and making
short downward twitches of 8" or less.
Question: Do you have any tips on using the
Manta?
Answer: We do not recommend that you use monofilament line
with a MANTA. Monofilament has too much stretch to feel the lure properly.
For best results, use a 10"-12" single-strand leader with your
MANTA. The MANTA may be worked slowly or quickly, HOWEVER one simple
rule must be followed: Face the lure and make short, rhythmic, downward twitches
(12 inches or less as a ballpark figure). That is all that is necessary to make
the lure operate properly. DO NOT MAKE LARGE SWEEPS WITH YOUR ROD! Please keep
in mind that very little effort is required to use the lure effectively. Mix up
your timing in order to make the MANTA’s underwater "walk the dog"
action more erratic. Throw in hard twitches here and there during your retrieve
to make the lure dart further to one side, and then pause the lure and let it
suspend for an instant. Muskies generally hit this lure broadside just as it
pauses. BE READY, because you generally do not see follows with this lure. Carry
bolt cutters, since 4X hooks are very hard to cut, and we have found that many
muskies are hooked very solidly. Last but not least, FOR PROPER LURE OPERATION,
ALWAYS HAVE TWO IDENTICAL HOOKS ON YOUR MANTA. (We use VMC 9626 BZ, size 4/0 on
the factory MANTA.)
